“There is a variety of reasons behind the ongoing security breaches and the Turkmen have become a victim of the events including the lack of an integrated security system in these areas”, Arshad As-Salihi told Kirkuk Now.

He added, “There are disagreements between the Iraqi Federal and the Kurdistan Regional governments on the security file, the multiplicity of security decision sources and the absence of intelligence”.

As-Salihi also declared that the province is witnessing daily security breaches, and there is a ‘media blackout because these security breaches make the central government appear to be weak. The Interior Ministry has, unfortunately, abandoned the security forces in Kirkuk and let them run on their own.’

He explained that terror is unified today against the political powers while the security forces are understaffed and disorganized. There deactivation in the federal government because of disagreements on the budget approval or other important decisions are proof.

The assassination attempt on the head of the Turkmen Front, the MP Arshad As-Salihi on Wednesday, 19th of February 2014 by an improvised explosive device (IED) placed on the side of the road in the Kassabkhana area, Kirkuk resulted in the injury of two of his guards.
