Al-Hashd al-Shaabi Launches Military Operations in South-West of Kirkuk

Al-Hashd al-Shaabi announced the launch of large-scale military operations to hunt down the militants of the Islamic State organization (IS) in the villages of Riyadh district, southwest of Kirkuk.

“Al-Hashd al-Shaabi has launched large-scale military operations in the villages of the Riyadh district to hunt down armed militants,” the official spokesman for the northern axis of Al-Hashd al-Shaabi, Jawdat al-Asafi, said in a statement.

“It was agreed to implement qualitative operations in the area to impose law and security to secure the province of Kirkuk and the surrounding areas,” the 11th Major General Ali al-Hamdani said in a statement to the official website of Al-Hashd al-Shaabi.

Al-Hamdani stressed on that “the security situation in the province of Kirkuk is stable,” calling on the people of Kirkuk to “reassurance in the presence of security forces and Al-Hashd al-Shaabi that work to keep the evil away from the province.”

27 members of Al-Hashd al-Shaabi were killed on the night of 18-2-2018 in clashes with an armed man in a village in the south-western part of Kirkuk.

Iraqi security forces carried out military operations against armed militants in south of Kirkuk areas, killing several and arresting others.
