Tensions broke out on Sunday September 2, in the Ezidi-populated town of Shingal between Iraqi army forces and members of the Shingal Protection units (YBS).

Fahad Hamid, Shingal’s district Commissioner told (Kirkuk Now) that the incident took place as members of (YBS) attempted to pass through Qabail checkpoint towards Shingal but they were intercepted by the Iraqi army.

“No casualties were reported in the fire exchange and the situation is now under control”, he confirmed

Fahad Hamid said “the skirmish resulted from a misunderstanding between the two forces”.

Meanwhile, Qasim Shasho, a commander  of the Peshmarga forces in Nineva confirmed the reports saying “the fire exchange happened when a convoy of (YBS) forces were intercepted by the Iraqi army at a checkpoint before entering Shingal”

The town of Shangal is 120 Km west of Ninawa province, mostly populated by the Ezidi community.
