The Commander of Iraqi counter terrorism forces in Kirkuk, announced that 25 ISIS militants have been killed near Kirkuk in the past few days, which dealt a major blow to the terror group.

Ma’an Saadi, in a statement, declared that “acting upon intelligence reports, two secret tunnels used by ISIS militants in the environs of Dubz, northwest of Kirkuk were targeted by Coalition fighter planes last week, killing 25 militants”.

He reaffirmed that a number of high ranking ISIS members were among the dead, noting that the militants were “planning attacks in Kirkuk and areas recaptured by Iraqi forces”.

The Commander of counter terrorism forces assured the residents of Kirkuk they will continue to “track down ISIS terrorists and their sleeper cells in Kirkuk”.

Although final victory over ISIS was declared a year ago, the terror group has continued a small-level insurgency in some areas of Iraq.

On October 20, 2018 an Iraqi army unit was redeployed in southern Kirkuk at the request of Kirkuk administration to help restore stability.
