Arab-populated areas of Shingal will remain under the control of the Hashd al-Sha’bi

Haval Chiya, a commander of the Ezidxan Protection Force declared to KirkukNow that “According to a joint plan, the Hashd al-Sha’bi units have handed over three villages and a residential compound to our force and they intend to hand over all the Ezidi-inhabited areas soon”.

The areas which have been handed over so far include the villages of Sibayee, Jazira and Grr Aziz as well as Qahtaniya residential compound.

handover of these areas to the Ezidxan Protection Force will encourage more Ezidi displaced families to return

The Ezidxan Protection Force, with close ties to PKK, is recognized by the Iraqi government, which also pays their salaries.

Fahad Hamid, acting district commissioner of Shingal believes that the handover of these areas to the Ezidxan Protection Force will “encourage more Ezidi displaced families to return”.

He reaffirmed that the areas which have been protected by the Ezidxan force have witnessed substantial stability in security.
