A group with links to the Islamic State (IS) terror organization has been arrested in the Hamrin area, Diyala province.

Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces (Hashd al-Sha’abi) said they arrested all members of the so-called (Tal Bardan) group in a military operation to root out IS remnants on Thursday January 9th near Hamrin Lake on the borders of Diyala, which lasted for 4 hours.

Sadiq Husseini, head of Diyala provincial council’s security committee described the (Tal Bardan) group as “dangerous”, indicating that the arrests were made in an “ambush based on intelligence tip-offs.”

The arrests  dealt a major blow to the Islamic State

Husseini reaffirmed that the arrest of the group deals a “major blow to the Islamic State” which he said has suffered great losses at the hands of Iraqi security forces and Popular Mobilization units in the last few months.
