Pregnant woman sets herself on fire

235 cases of violence against women were reported only in 2011, as 30 women were killed resulting from social affairs.
Due to a problem with her husband, a pregnant woman set herself on fire, and died as a result of her injuries after three days.
A source near the family who does not want to be referred to by name said, “On May 8 the woman set herself on fire since she long had an issue with her husband,” The source added, “When her husband went out, she set herself on fire using oil.”
A source from Azadi Hospital in Kirkuk confirmed the news, saying the woman was born in 1983, “Since 80% of her body was burnt, she died early in the morning of May 11 in the hospital.”
In a statement to Kirkuk Now, the head of the Kirkuk branch of the Kurdistan Women’s Union once mentioned, “suicide and self-burning has been increasing among women in Kirkuk due to social problems, but their relatives hide the truth saying it was from an electric shock or something else.”
She said they cannot do anything unless their relatives complain.
According to the statistics of the Kirkuk Provincial Council, 235 cases of violence against women were reported only in 2011, as 30 women were killed due to social affairs.
