Iraq wants to carry out general census
The Iraqi Ministry of Planning is putting plans in place to carry out a general census in the country, as the Social Affairs Committee in Iraqi Parliament believes a census will help proposed projects and plans to succeed.
Minister of Planning Ali Shukri considered a census as ‘impossible’ due to not having a budget allocated to do it while Undaim Kenna, an Iraqi MP told Sabah, “The major reason of not holding a census is the disputed areas.”
Kenna said some factions reject a census with the excuse that the political atmosphere ‘is not stable’. However, Iraq needs such a census to have data and statistics while planning.
Abdulzahra Hindawi, spokesperson of the MoP said postponing a census “will cause a great damage to Iraq.”
