A source from Turkish government says Iraqi government is not ready to give a visa to the president of the Turkish Milliyet Halk Partisi (MHP), a Turkish opposition party, Devlet Behceli and his accompanying delegation.

Ahbar, a Turkish website said on August 11 that Behceli visited the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs in order to attain a visa to enter Iraq via Mosul.  Behceli ‘intentionally’ tried to enter Iraq from Mosul as to prevent going though the Kurdistan region of Iraq. Behceli was not ready to see the thumb of the KRG on his passport.

“The Iraqi foreign ministry has rejected Behceli’s request without giving any reason,” according to the website.

Following the Turkish FM’s visit to Kirkuk without Baghdad’s knowledge, tensions have developed between the two governments resulting in an exchange of fiery statements.  The Iraqi Council of Ministers decided to mend the relations between the two countries.

Devlet Behceli’s office issued a statement concerning the rejection which said “Unfortunately, the mentality of Barzani is also dominant with Nuri Malaki; with giving all the required documents, the visit was disbanded.”
