The decision for the formation of a brigade from the Sahwa forces is to be conducted, with their main duty being the protection of the oil pipelines under the command of the Tigris operation.
According to official documentations obtained by the Sbeiy website, the decision is currently under implementation in Kirkuk.
The decision for the formation of the brigade coincides with the ongoing meetings between the ministerial committees of the Iraqi Ministry of Defense and Kurdistan’s Ministry of Peshmarga to reach agreements over the recent tensions and conflicts between both sides in the disputed territories.
Ahmad Askari, the head of the security committee of the Kirkuk Provincial Council told the Sbeiy website “The formation of any military unit outside of the Iraqi army will further complicate the issues, specifically in the disputed territories.”
“The formation of the mentioned brigade, without notifying the KPC, will further complicate the issues, not reach solutions,” he added.
The decision for the formation of the brigade was made on January 27 under the command of the Tigris operation for the protection of the oil pipelines.
