They burned down his small bookshop but he opened a bigger one
Sami Sulaiman has been running a bookshop for 27 years

My name is Sami Sulaiman. I was born in 1976. I’ve been selling books for the last 27 years. I graduated from the media department in Beirut, Lebanon.

In 2003, I opened a small bookshop in Kirkuk; after less than a year, extremists burned down my bookshop because it contained controversial publications about Islam.

Despite the threats, I decided to open another book shop bigger than the first one in central Kirkuk’s Komari Street.

Now, I only sell English language study books, as English is regarded as a universal language, and I want the people here to benefit from the important sources I try to provide.

Every Friday, I organize a debate session for young readers, in which they exchange views regarding a particular book.
