Abdulla and Jabar are two buffalo herders in Kirkuk.
Nearly 25 families depend on buffalo herding to earn a living.
They say, “Herding buffalos is something we inherited from our forefathers. It has been our only source of income for 70 years.
They also say that buffalo milk is extremely fatty and rich in calcium and some people use it as a healer for fractured bones.
We sell some of our produce to yogurt factories.
Abdulla and Jabar complain that the government is not providing them with the support they need. They call for preventing the export of cattle feed to other provinces which has increased prices.
