Kirkuk: nine health workers infected with COVID-19

Nine members of the medical teams in Kirkuk’s hospital and the other health offices have contracted the novel coronavirus when they had treated the other infected patients.

The health workers infection with the virus coincides with a surge in the coronavirus cases in Kirkuk in the last two weeks.

Dr. Shamal Taha is one of the infected doctor, who has been self-quarantining. “I have always complied with the medical instructions [while giving treatments to the coronavirus patients], but sometime you have more interactions with them and get infected.”

He has started self-quarantine as soon as he had mild symptoms and tested positive for the virus.

“I had headache and fever and my muscles hurt.”

Taha is a doctor at the Azadi Hospital in Kirkuk and requested people to fully comply with the medical guidelines.

As of yesterday, 14 other medical workers were waiting for the results of their tests.

A source from the health directorate told KirkukNow that only that nine workers have so far tested positive and the other 14 are quarantined and are waiting for the tests results of their tests.

The source added that the reason for the infection of the health workers is because of their continuous servant to the coronavirus patients, from whom they have contracted the virus.

299 coronavirus cases have been recorded in Kirkuk. 95 of them recovered from the virus and eight died of it.

Meanwhile, health directorate of the city takes blood plasma of recovered patients and gives it to the infected persons to recover.

17 thousand and 770 cases have been recorded in Iraq, with six thousand and 668 recoveries and 496 deaths nationwide.
