The intelligence agency of the Interior Ministry has arrested an alleged member of ISIS responsible for manufacturing IEDs in Kirkuk.
The ministry announced in a statement: After collecting accurate intelligence information, units of the Intelligence Agency detained a “terrorist” in Kirkuk City, who was wanted in accordance to the Section 4 of the anti-terror law, for being part of ISIS.
Units of Division 5 participated in a security operation by the Federal Police to search and clear areas in the abu-Shahma valley in the al-Rashad subdistrict, southwest of Kirkuk governorate.
According to a Federal Police statement, the operation resulted in "a clash with two suicide bombers, who were then surround, after which they blew themselves up."
The operation also resulted in the discovery of seven hideouts containing two homemade explosive devices, foodstuffs, clothes and medicine. The hideouts were destroyed and the materials removed.
General abdul-Amir Rashid Yarallah, Chief of Staff of the Army, discussed with the interim governor of Kirkuk and chairman of the Supreme Security Committee, Rakan Saeed al-Jubouri, the security situation in the province and efforts to support the military and restore stability.
