Two displaced of the Ezidi community found dead in Duhok in two days, local authorities said they committed suicide by gunshot but the investigations are ongoing.
Amar Khudaeda Shamo, 41, father of 7 children, was found dead on Duhok-Sumel district highway on Tuesday afternoon. Shamo is originally from Gohbal compound of Sinuny sub-district, north of Shingal District, homeland for Iraqi Ezidis massacred by the extremist group of ISIS in 2014.
“He shot himself by gun,” said Pir Allo Kachal, manager of Khanky camp in northern province of Duhok where Shamo used to live after that IS militants controlled Shingal and Mosul province in August 2014.

Hundreds of thousands of Ezidis whom survived the genocide by the extremist Sunni group have fled their homes to Shingal Mount and later moved to camps for Internally Displaced People IDP as the militants accuse them of being heretics. Ezidi community are a religious community based north of Iraq.
Thousands of Ezidis were buried in more than 80 mass and individual graves left behind Daesh. Thousands of Ezidi children, girls and women were taken captive and sexually abused in ISIS controlled areas in Iraq and Syria.
The survivors are living in poor living conditions in camps north of Iraq as instability, lack of proper administration and poor public services hinders their return home.
An Ezidi girl was found dead in Gohbal compound on Monday. Idris Jihad, an eye witness, said Zina Haji Khidir, his cousin, “killed her self by gunshot and we do not know the reason but we are waiting for police report.”
Local administration says police have started investigating the incident.

Shingal district mayor office, based in Duhok, figures show that 250 found dead in the camps for displaced, either by gunshot or hanging, mainly women.
The statistics of 2021 are alarming since in the first week five people were found dead by gunshot and suffocation, four of them were women. The figures were confirmed by DaK Organization for Development, an NGO operating in the IDP camps.
Iraqi federal government has decided to task a committee for follow and investigation of “rising suicide cases among Ezidis.”
