Iraqi minister of interior met local security officials in Daquq district and Kirkuk northern Province to set new plan to confront so called Islamic State IS militants escalating recently in the region.
Othman al-Ghanimi, minister of interior, has met with brigade 20 of Iraqi federal police in Daquq homeland to Kaka’i religious minority. Later he headed a meeting with Unit 5 of Iraqi federal police in Kirkuk.
“The goal of the visit is discussion of a new security plan to face IS militants in the region, how to reduce and eradicate their threat to police and the people in the region” a security source in Daquq anonymously told KirkukNow.

Daquq district, 44 southwest of Kirkuk is home for Kaka'i, or Yarsanism, a secretive monotheist spiritual religion which has not been officially recognized in the Iraqi constitution. The Kaka’i community and their villages are a target for extremist Islamic militants whom persecuted them as they accuse them of being defectors.
Former Iraqi PM Haidar Al-Abadi announced defeat of ISIS end of 2017 yet the group is regrouping lately. ISIS regional leaders and operatives continue to be targeted, forcing them to hide in rural areas.
Last month, Iraqi PM Kadhimi announced murder of key figure of ISIS in Iraq Abu Yasser Al-Issawi, ISIS Deputy Caliph in Iraq, in an operation by Iraqi forces south of Kirkuk. The operation came in response to Baghdad double suicide booming last January, killed 32 civilians and injured more than 100.
The Oil rich city of Kirkuk is home Kurds, Arabs and Turkmen. Baghdad and Erbil dispute over administration of the city despite outline map for the region under article 140 of Iraqi constitution. Currently Iraqi local police provide security of the province supported by Iraqi army.
The fighters of the extermist groups are regrouping south of Kirkuk and carry out operations against local police. On Feb. 11, IS fighters assaulted local police point in Arab Koy village south of Daquq, two policemen were killed and two were injured.
