A male urinary tract and infertility surgeon has cautioned against using laptops, particularly on the lap and pelvis, as they "impact sperm mobility" and weaken reproduction.
"The use of laptops has increased in our time, and most users place them near the pelvic area for extended periods, which is detrimental to men's health," Dr. Ranj Bilal Kakeyi told KirkukNow.
Thermal and electromagnetic radiation effects:
"The heat emitted from the laptop affects the scrotum, as the temperature of a man's scrotum should be 2 to 4 degrees lower than body temperature. Prolonged exposure to heat can impact the scrotum in men,” he added.
"Some sources suggest that laptops emit electronic beams that can affect sperm, though this has not been definitively proven and is still under study."
Seating arrangement:
Dr. Ranj also explains that certain sitting positions while using a laptop can reduce blood flow to the pelvic area, potentially affecting reproductive organs.
"Therefore, it is better to use laptops away from the pool area to avoid heat exposure for a long time and to be careful how we sit,” he added.
"All of these factors could contribute to infertility in some individuals and hinder fertility."
