Clashes broke out late on Sunday March 17 between Iraqi army troops and members of the Shingal Protection Forces in Ninewa’s Shingal (Sinjar) district.
KirkukNow correspondent in Shingal confirmed that the fighting which took place in Sinune sub-district near the Syrian border resulted in casualties on both sides according to reports.
Fahad Hamid, Shingal’s district commissioner speking to KirkukNow said that “Three people were killed and three other were injured in the clashes” without elaborating on the incident.
The Shingal Protection Forces was formed to protect the Ezidi community after the Islamic State group stormed the Ezidi populated town in 2014 forcing thousands of Shingal residents to flee and seek refuge in Mount Shingal.
The Iraqi army was redeployed in Shingal following the October 16, 2017 events after Kurdish Peshmarga forces withdrew from the area.
