Two cows rigged with explosives were detonated in a village in Jalawla, a sub-district of Khanaqin northeast of Diyala province.
The incident took place at around 10:15 p.m. on Saturday in Islah village.
A villager was injured in the blast, according to Sayf Sattar, headman of the village.
“We heard a loud explosion, and when we arrived at the scene we saw the cows were ripped apart;we then knew that they were booby-trapped,” he told KirkukNow.
“The cows are taken very morning to pastures near Sirwan River, and in the evening they return by themselves,” he added.
The Islah village headman pointed out that “the terrorists were planning to target villagers.”
The village is located north of Jalawla which have been witnessing an increase in militant activities.
