A Kirkuk court has issued an arrest warrant against Ghafoor Saleh Sameen, deputy head of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK)’s Organizational Center in the multi-ethnic province of Kirkuk on terrorism charges.
KirkukNow obtained a copy of the arrest warrant issued recently on the background of a complaint filed against the PUK official by the Directorate of Intelligence and Combating Terrorism in Kirkuk.
The warrant issued by the Kirkuk Court of Investigation has “authorized members of the judicial discipline and the police to arrest Ghafoor Salih Sameen according to article 4 of the anti-terrorism law.”
A source from the PUK organizational center in Kirkuk, speaking to KirkukNow, confirmed the issuance of the arrest warrant.
Meanwhile, Ghafoor Saleh declined to comment on the reports and said he knew nothing about it.
Ghafoor Saleh is father of Iraqi MP Dilan Ghafoor from the PUK fraction. In 2018, he defied a decision by the Kirkuk local administration after he hoisted the flag of the Kurdistan Region at the PUK headquarters in Kirkuk. The flag was lowered after a short while at the request of the Counter-Terrorism Service.
