The Iraqi Ministry of Interior announced that the entire members of a band that was involved in human trafficking are yet to be arrested, only a woman and another five girls have been arrested based on Judge’s warrant.
On the eve of May 1st, 2020, a joint force from the police department of Kirkuk in an operation arrested a prostitute band in Nasr neighborhood, that consisted of six women.
A source from the police department told KirkukNow, “we received information on the band and our forces went to the house and arrested them.”
“In one of the room of the house, two girls were hand tied in a room and three other girls were also hand tied in three separate locked rooms… there were signs of torture on their bodies,” the source said.
He also revealed that a woman was arrested who headed the band.
The police investigations have revealed that the five girls are from an Iraqi city and have been “bought” for human trafficking by a 62 years old mother and her son.
“The mother was arrested in the house, but the son has managed to flee, both of them headed the band.”
The Iraqi Ministry of Interior issued a statement on Sunday, May 3rd, revealing that the band was arrested by the police forces… happened after the judge issued their arrest warrants.”
Fake documents have been confiscated in the house, which were used for the movements of the girls, according to the ministry’s statement.
The case has been transferred to the court that has already held hearings. Currently, they are detained and are being investigated in accordance with the Iraqi Penal Code, and the investigations aim at finding and arresting those who have escaped, the statement of the Ministry of Interior says.
Two of the girls are only18 years old and another two are 23 years old, the last two girls are 26 and 28 years old, who are all being “bought” from another band for the purpose of human trafficking.
