In the past eight months, 210 cases of domestic violence have been registered by Kirkuk Police. 190 of them are complaints of women against their husbands.
KirkukNow has obtained a copy of the statistic by Kirkuk Police, which shows that the highest rate in that period has been in the first 20 days of September; namely 28 cases.
60 cases have been registered in February and March (30 cases each); 52 of them being violence by women against their wives. But in April, only 11 cases were registered.
In March, 27 cases were registered; 25 of them being violence by men against their wives.
In June, 17 cases were registered; 16 of them being violence by men against their wives.
In July, 28 cases were registered; 25 of them being violence by men against their wives.
In August, 31 cases were registered; all of them being violence by men against their wives.
In September 38 cases have been registered so far; 32 of them being violence by men against their wives.
According to numbers from the Federal Government 5,000 cases of domestic violence have been registered in the first six months of 2020 in Iraq.
A resolution against domestic violence is scheduled to be debated in the Iraqi Parliament.
