Two children died and five people injured in two car accidents in Kirkuk on Sunday, sources told KirkukNow.
An eight-year-old child dies and five others injured when a BMW sedan hit six people, including five children, in Gulan neighborhood of Daquq district at 7:30 pm last night.
The accident occurred when the driver of the vehicle swerved on the main road and hit six people, the traffic directorate said.
One of the children, the only child of his family, died and the driver was arrested by security forces on Sunday.
"The car suddenly hit me from the back. We were five children and a man selling bread on a carriage. He was injured and one of the children died," said Yousef , one of the injured children.
Daquq, 44 km south of Kirkuk is home to 97,000 Turkmens, Kurds and Arabs, Kaka’is and Muslims, and part of the disputed territories between Baghdad and Erbil.

In another incident, a two-year-old child was hit by a car at 9 pm last night. The child died on the way to hospital.
According to the child's relatives, the driver "was a teenager who appeared on surveillance cameras, but has not yet been arrested.”
Kirkuk traffic last night called on drivers to follow traffic regulations and avoid speeding and drive at allowed speed, in order to protect the safety of citizens, particularly in residential areas.
Located 238 kilometers north of Baghdad, Kirkuk is an ethnically mixed province for 1,7 million Kurds, Sunni and Shiite Arabs, and Turkmens. It has long been at the center of disputes between Baghdad and the Erbil.
