The deputy governor of Nineveh has denied reports that government offices or civilian houses in the province have been struck since the outbreak of the US-Israeli war against Iran. However, he confirmed that five locations belonging to the Popular Mobilization Forces PMF known as Hashd al-Shaabi were hit, resulting in casualties.

Ghazwan Dawoodi, First Deputy Governor of Nineveh, told KirkukNow that no state institutions or residential properties have been damaged. “The situation in Nineveh is stable and under control,” he said, adding that daily life and government operations have continued without disruption.

His remarks followed the circulation of images on social media allegedly showing damage to buildings in Mosul, the provincial capital, attributed to recent airstrikes. The posts triggered widespread reactions online.

Ahmad Kiki, head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) faction, dismissed the images as outdated. “These photos date back to the ISIS period and are being reposted as if they are recent,” he said. “So far, no government buildings or homes have been hit, and civilians have not suffered direct damage.”

He clarified that the strikes were limited to Hashd al-Shaabi positions, mainly in the Nineveh Plain, noting that several fighters were killed or injured, though exact figures remain unclear.

Despite this, residents report that the attacks have caused fear and disruption. Naji Hormoz, head of Telsqof village in the al-Qush sub-district of Tilkef district, said a nearby Hashd al-Shaabi base in Batnaia village—about 500 meters from residential homes—was struck.

“The bombardment has created anxiety among residents,” he said. “We were told there were casualties among the fighters, but the full extent of the damage is unknown.” He added that schools have occasionally been closed due to the security situation, raising concerns about the broader impact on civilians.
