The Sen Kobi orchard located in the disputed multi-ethnic, multi-religious district of Khanaqin in northeastern Diyala province resembles a centuries-old presence of the Jewish community in the town. The orchard belonged to a wealthy Jew called Sen Kobi. The orchard stretches over an area of 57 donums in the center of Khanaqin, and was built the 19th century, specifically in early 1881.The orchard comprises fruit trees, such as orange, lemon as well as date palms. Most of the Jewish population in Iraq migrated in the 20th century; however, they left surviving memories behind, including this orchard. Before migrating, the Jews used to work in various private businesses, including blacksmithing, trade and stock exchange. The Jewish population was subjected to random arrests by Iraqi authorities in the early 1950s, triggering a mass exodus towards Israel.
