Kirkuk: Police free 12-year-old kidnapped boy

 Police in Kirkuk freed a 12-year-old boy, only hours after he was kidnapped by unknown gunmen.

Muhammad Ala Ibrahim was reported kidnapped in Domiz neighborhood on Friday October 25. He was freed late on the same day; however, his abductors managed to escape.

“We were informed about the incident at around 2 p.m. on Friday. The kidnapped boy’s relatives said he was kidnapped by unknown gunmen and was taken to an unknown location, and we immediately launched an investigation,” said brigadier Afrasyaw Kamil, spokesman to Kirkuk police department.

The kidnapped boy is of Arab ethnicity and his family is settled in Domiz neighborhood.

A team from the police department headed by Afrasyaw Kamil was tasked to investigate the kidnapping incident and found clues which led them to the abductors’ whereabouts, but “the 3-member band managed to escape before the police team arrived,” according to brigadier Afrasyaw.

Police handed the boy over to his family. Police said he was released unharmed.

The police spokesman indicated that their investigations will continue to disclose the identity of the abductors.

The incident took place hours after acting governor of Kirkuk Rakan Saeed al-Jiburi assured residents that the security situation is stable.
